You may think that the title of this blog is an exaggeration — but it is far from one.

When it comes to getting your kids ready for school, as well as simultaneously preparing for your day — a functional mudroom can be the difference between a stress-free morning and a hectic one.

To ensure that your morning routine is a streamlined and productive one, here are some key features to include in your mudroom to completely change your life (for the better!).

Take a Seat

Kids can have a tough time getting their shoes on (or during the winter, their boots). That’s why it is important for your mudroom to include an area to sit down.

How many times have you told your kids to, “get your shoes on! We’re late!”?

We’re guessing a lot.

By including a bench in your mudroom, your kids will be able to put their kicks on easier, or you’ll be able to assist them easier.

It’s a small detail, but having somewhere to sit will make getting your kids ready to head out much easier.

Streamlined Storage

Functional storage is a huge trend these days. Why? Well, because we all have a lot of stuff — and we have a tough time getting rid of it, too.

But that’s okay, because there are some fantastic storage options for every room in your house, including your mudroom.

When it comes to what you store in your mudroom in the winter, you’ll likely have a lot of winter clothes — like gloves, stocking caps, and boots. In the spring, you’ll have rain gear, sports equipment, and shoes.

But how can you store all this stuff to make it easy for your kids to grab and put on without your assistance?

Well, there are tons of fantastic benches out there with storage compartment, hooks, shelving, and more. At Anchor Builders, we can help create a solution so that your belongings are out of sight, but never out of reach.

By including one of these benches in your mudroom, you’ll not only have a place to sit, but you can use each compartment for a specific type of clothing or so each of your kids can have their own to store stuff.

Less lost mittens and more functionality sounds like a pretty good deal, doesn’t it? Storage benches will accomplish just that.

No More Dirty Clothes Throughout your Home

Mudrooms were designed to be the place where you can take off all your dirty, wet, and muddy items so you don’t track any of that grime around the house.

But, you still have to get those dirty clothes to the washer. Luckily, there is an easy solution to this problem — simply put an additional washer and dryer in your mudroom!

If a dedicated laundry room isn’t feasible near your bedrooms, the mudroom is great secondary option room for washers and dryers. Or double up your washing and drying abilities with a second set in the mudroom with the reason being simple — convenience.

Whether your kids have been playing in the rain and dirt or making snow angels outside, you can keep the mess inside your home to a minimum by including your washer and dryer in your mudroom.

Your kids can simply take off their dirty clothes, toss them in the washer, and avoid tracking the mess through the house!

Now that’s what we call life-changing!

A Place For Reminders

You’ll see a decent amount of homes that include calendars, bulletin boards, or key hooks within their mudroom. Why? Because the mudroom is oftentimes the first room you enter when coming home and the last room you’re in before you leave!

We like to call this area the ‘drop zone,’ because it’s where you can drop off all your important information and documents (like those always elusive field trip permission slips or that wifi password you keep forgetting) in one central location. That way, you’ll easily find what you’re looking for instead of searching around the house for hours on end.
