Midcentury Japandi

The owners of this Minnetonka residence loved their private hilltop lot, but the house itself was dark, dated, and poorly suited to their lifestyle. “We had a vision of the home that met our lifestyle,” the clients said “We love our neighborhood and the yard that surrounds us. We wanted to craft our forever home together in this place, on that foundation.” So, they turned to our team, who began the design process by meeting with them, learning how they live, and discovering what their goals were for the project. The main design objectives centered on entertainment spaces, one-story living, natural light, and views of the greenery surrounding the home. To bring this vision to life, the home was stripped down to the foundation with only a few exterior walls left standing, allowing for a complete transformation. On the exterior, composite siding allows for minimal maintenance while still providing the natural appearance of wood cladding. Inside, vaulted ceilings and transom windows brighten the main level, while thoughtfully placed indirect lighting creates feelings of warmth and coziness. The success of this project was built on a strong foundation of trust between the homeowners and the design-build team, resulting in a home that exceeded expectations.

Ewing Oasis

Located in the sought-after Linden Hills neighborhood of Minneapolis, this transitional-modern new build features a unique layout and one-of-a-kind design. The hilly site posed a challenge and opportunity for our design and build team. From the initial planning phases, we worked closely with our clients to create a modern, playful home with open spaces, ample storage, and plenty of natural light. The exterior design was inspired by homes that feature a bold combination of contemporary black siding and traditional brickwork. A mix of flat roofs and gables works together to create uniformity and dimension to the human scale. Situated on a hill, the home boasts a tiered landscape design, helping it to blend into the surrounding landscape. Inside, each room boasts its own individual character while maintaining a cohesive palette of colors, textures, and finishes. Contemporary rift and quartersawn white oak flooring connects each space, while a mixture of modern and contemporary light fixtures and hardware contributes to the overall aesthetic. Throughout the home, the clients also had fun with vibrant colors and patterns, infusing the spaces with personality and charm. High-quality materials were used to ensure durability and a high level of design, resulting in a space that is functional and fitting to the owners’ personal lifestyle.

A Level Up in Lenox

True to its name, we started by “popping the top” and converting the existing attic into a proper second level. This not only created more square footage, but it also enabled an ideal, open feel for the main level. Next up, to create a layout that fit their family, we converted the previous main floor bedrooms into a formal dining room and an office. Lastly, we integrated our client’s love for reading, history, and originality by hand selecting elements to keep, restore, or replicate. This historical twist on a contemporary design was the perfect blend of our client’s wishes while harmonizing with the surrounding charm of the Lenox neighborhood.

Behind the Wallpaper

Like many families, the pandemic brought light for our client’s desire to have more space for their kids to grow up. Finding their dream location, the home’s clinker brick exterior was full of charm with a sprawling yard surrounded by trees while the interior had not been updated in decades. They reached out to Anchor when their friends we built a home for recommended our Design-Build team to help them transform the interior to a functional, modern space. Underneath the wallpaper, dental crown, well-loved fireplaces, outdated kitchen and bathrooms, and hodgepodge of incohesive finishes was plenty of square footage and a blank slate for the young family to make their forever home an inviting place to raise their kids and entertain family and friends. While the whole home was remodeled with fresh flooring, paint, and light fixtures the main areas of focus included: Kitchen, Pantry, Dining Room, Living Room, Great Room, Main Level Kid’s Bathroom, Mudroom, and Stairs between the two levels with new custom railings and carpet runner.
